What to Expect During Your Contact Lens Trial & I&R Appointment
What Is a Contact Lens Trial?
A contact lens trial allows you to try lenses before committing to wearing them long-term. It helps us make sure the lenses are:
- Comfortable
- Providing clear vision
- Suitable for your eye health and lifestyle
We’ll start by assessing your eyes and prescription, then select the most appropriate lens type for you — whether it’s daily disposables, monthly lenses, or something more specialised.
You’ll then be given trial lenses to take home, giving you the chance to test them out in your everyday life before making a decision.
Insertion & Removal (I&R) Training
As part of the trial, we’ll guide you through the process of safely inserting and removing your lenses. This is known as the I&R appointment and includes:
- A demonstration by our trained staff
- Hands-on practice inserting and removing the lenses yourself
- Hygiene tips and how to clean/store your lenses (if applicable)
- Do’s and don’ts for safe, healthy lens wear
- Time to ask questions and build your confidence
We’ll take things at your pace — there’s no pressure, and we’re happy to schedule a second I&R session if needed.
What Happens Next?
After your trial period (usually around a week), we’ll invite you back for a follow-up check to:
- Make sure the lenses are comfortable and performing well
- Review your eye health with lenses in place
- Finalise your prescription and lens choice if you’re happy to continue
